  1. Hamdulillah
  2. Hamdullah
  3. Hamdala
  4. Hamdoullah
  5. Al-hamdu-llah

Alhamdulillah can be written in Arabic as:

الْحَمْدُ للّهِ

How to pronounce the word Alhamdulillah?

If I divide this word into three parts:

Al+hamdu+lillah where you have to pronounce the ‘hey’ of ‘hamdu’ from the throat. This is why we always put ‘ preceding ‘hey’. So the pronunciation spontaneously comes out of the throat. For i.e. Al’hamdulillah

The Holy Prophet sallALLAHu ‘Alayhe Wasallam said:

“When the servant says:

Alhamdulillah lillahi Rabbil ‘Aalameen’

Praise belongs to ALLAH, the Lord of all the worlds,

ALLAH says: “My servant has paid his homage to Me.”

Maariful Quran

Homage means special honor and respect. Here it hints about the loyalty or commitment given by a slave to his Lord. Whosoever praises anything anywhere in the world is ultimately praising ALLAH.

If you admire a flower of a rose. Wow! how beautiful this rose is? Ultimately, you are saying: Wow! how beautiful ALLAH made this rose?

But I am still jumbled that why do people say Alhamdulillah is very powerful?

Darn! The meaning of Alhamdulillah is ‘All the praises and thanks be to ALLAH’. Now, what power you need from this phrase? Just know the core intention behind this; Praising ALLAH for whatever you have. Praise ALLAH for everything you have!

But still my question is why I have to say Alhamdulillah?

The answer is very straight forward. Swallowing the true fact! When you say Alhamdulillah it cuts the very root of polytheism or the worship of created beings.

You are accepting that ALLAH solely is the creator of the worlds.

Just 6 days and ALLAH created the whole world. Being a part of it. You own immense blessings since when you born: Your taste buds, your 576-megapixel eyes, and so on. (If we discuss we will get off the topic). You know this exceptionally. Don’t forget to read→ La Ilaha Illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah

Where & How is Alhamdulillah Mentioned in Quran?

Alhamdulillah is a part of Quranic verse/ayat. I am elaborating as to why I must say Alhamdulillah in context with The Noble Quran.

  • The very first verse/ayat of Surah Fatiha: الْحَمْدُ للّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

All praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds.

I must say Alhamdulillah- because ALLAH is the Sustainer of all the worlds.

  • The very first verse/ayat of Surah Al-An’aam: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ الظُّلُمَاتِ وَالنُّورَ

All praises and thanks be to ALLAH, Who (Alone) created the heavens and the earth, and originated the darkness and the light;

I must say Alhamdulillah because HE (Alone) created the heavens and the earth, and originated the darkness and the light;

  • The forty-fifth (45th) verse/ayat of Surah Al-An’aam: وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

And praise to ALLAH, Lord of the worlds.

I must say Alhamdulillah because HE is Lord of the worlds.

  • The forty-third (43rd) verse/ayat of Surah Al-A’araaf: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا

And praise to ALLAH, who has guided us to this;

I must say Alhamdulillah because HE has guided us to this; Because guidance comes only from ALLAH.

Likewise, you will find more verses ahead. Surah Yunus verse/ayat #10, Surah Ibraheem verse/ayat #39, Surah An-Nahl verse/ayat #75, Surah Al-Isra verse/ayat #111, and more. There are around 23 places in the Noble Quran where you can find this phrase Alhamdulillah.

You must say thanks to ALLAH for whatever you possess, including the grand cause ‘Ashraful Makhuqaat’ that is your ‘free will’. You did what you wanted to do. You went where you wanted to go. You committed sins: did haram; earned rewards: did halal. Everything happened on your own free will.

One more reason to say Alhamdulillah is already mentioned in The Holy Quran Surah #55, Surah Ar-Ra’hman:

Fabi Ayyi Aala-i Rabbikuma Tukazziban

Alhamdulillah is also known as Tahmeed.

It was narrated that Zaid bin Sabit said:

“They were commanded to say the tasbih thirty-three times following the prayer, and to say the tahmid thirty-three times, and to say the takbir thirty-four times, then a man from among the Ansar was told in a dream:

‘Did the Messenger of ALLAH sallALLAHu ‘Alayhe Wasallam command you to say the tasbih thirty-three times following the prayer, and to say the tahmid thirty-three times, and to say the takbir thirty-four times?’

He said: ‘Yes.’ ‘Instead of that, say each one twenty-five times, and include the tahlil among them.’

The next morning he came to the Messenger of ALLAH sallALLAHu ‘Alayhe Wasallam and told him about that, and he said: ‘Do that.'”
