Surah At-Talaq in English

Surah At-Talaq (The Divorce) is Chapter 65 Of the Holy Quran. Which is blessed with the commandment of ALLAH Swt. Revealation of the Surah was preceding in Medina Manauwara. Surah At Talaq is in Para No. 28 which comprehends into 12 verses and it has 2 ruku’at.

Surah At-Talaq Meaning

Surah At-Talaq titled in English means “The Divorce”. In the first seven verses, ALLAH SWT discloses the topic of divorce and its rulings. Specifically the prescribed period of iddah after divorce. Before leaving the house of the husband, women should wait to finish the period called “iddah” at the husband’s house as ordered in the Quran. After that, she is free to marry another man. The second part of talaq surah comprehends the future of the people who disobeyed the command and guidance of ALLAH SWT. As a result of their disobedience, they will taste the punishment.

Surah also talks about the people who obey the order of ALLAH SWT and the true followers of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him (ﷺ) . They are the believers. So the believers, the obedient who do good deeds and follow the commands of ALLAH SWT and his Messenger (ﷺ) peace be upon him, will enter paradise hereafter.

Surah At Talaq In English Translation , Arabic And English Transliteration

Aa’oozoobillahi Minash-shaitaanir Rajeem,

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

أَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطٰانِ الرَّجِيْمِ

بسم اللہ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

I seek refuge in Allah from the Shaitan, the accursed.

In The Name Of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Most Merciful.

۱. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ إِذَا طَلَّقۡتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَطَلِّقُوهُنَّ لِعِدَّتِهِنَّ وَأَحۡصُواْ ٱلۡعِدَّةَۖ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡۖ لَا تُخۡرِجُوهُنَّ مِنۢ بُيُوتِهِنَّ وَلَا يَخۡرُجۡنَ إِلَّآ أَن يَأۡتِينَ بِفَٰحِشَةٖ مُّبَيِّنَةٖۚ وَتِلۡكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِۚ وَمَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ ظَلَمَ نَفۡسَهُۥۚ لَا تَدۡرِي لَعَلَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحۡدِثُ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ أَمۡرٗا

1. Yaaa ayyuhan nabiyyu izaa tallaqtummun nisaaa’a fatalliqoohunna li’iddatihinna wa ahsul’iddata wattaqul laaha rabbakum; laa tukhri joohunna mimm bu-yootihinna wa laa yakhrujna illaaa anyya’teena bifaahishatim mubaiyinah; wa tilka hudoodul laah; wa many yata’adda hudoodal laahi faqad zalama nafsah; laa tadree la’allal laaha yuhdisu ba’dazaalika amraa

1. O Prophet, when you (Muslims) divorce women, divorce them for (the commencement of) their waiting period and keep count of the waiting period, and fear ALLAH, your Lord. Do not turn them out of their (husbands’) houses, nor should they (themselves) leave (during that period) unless they are committing a clear immorality. And those are the limits (set by) ALLAH. And whoever transgresses the limits of ALLAH has certainly wronged himself. You know not; perhaps ALLAH will bring about after that a (different) matter.

۲۔ فَإِذَا بَلَغۡنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمۡسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعۡرُوفٍ أَوۡ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعۡرُوفٖ وَأَشۡهِدُواْ ذَوَيۡ عَدۡلٖ مِّنكُمۡ وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَ لِلَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكُمۡ يُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِۚ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مَخۡرَجٗا

2. Fa izaa balaghna ajalahunna fa amsikoohunna bim’aroofin aw faariqoohunna bim’aroofinw wa ash-hidoo zawai ‘adlim minkum wa aqeemush shahaadata lillaah; zaalikum yoo’azu bihee man kaana yu’a-minu billaahi wal yawmil aakhir; wa mai yattaqil laaha yaj’al lahoo makhrajaa

2. And when they have (nearly) fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable terms or part with them according to acceptable terms. And bring to witness two just men from among you and establish the testimony for (the acceptance of) ALLAH. That is instructed to whoever should believe in ALLAH and the Last day. And whoever fears A ALLAH – He will make for him a way out

۳۔ وَيَرۡزُقۡهُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَحۡتَسِبُۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسۡبُهُۥٓۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَٰلِغُ أَمۡرِهِۦۚ قَدۡ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدۡرٗا

3. Wa yarzuqhu min haisu laa yahtasib; wa mai yatawakkal ‘alal laahi fahuwa hasbuh; innal laaha baalighu amrih; qad ja’alal laahu likulli shai-in qadraa

3. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon ALLAH – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, ALLAH will accomplish His purpose. ALLAH has already set for everything a (decreed) extent.

٤۔ وَٱلَّـٰٓـِٔي يَئِسۡنَ مِنَ ٱلۡمَحِيضِ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمۡ إِنِ ٱرۡتَبۡتُمۡ فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلَٰثَةُ أَشۡهُرٖ وَٱلَّـٰٓـِٔي لَمۡ يَحِضۡنَۚ وَأُوْلَٰتُ ٱلۡأَحۡمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَن يَضَعۡنَ حَمۡلَهُنَّۚ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦ يُسۡرٗا

Virtues of Surah Al Fatihah

4. Wallaaa’ee ya’isna minal maheezi min nisaaa ‘ikum inir tabtum fa’iddatuhunna salaasatu ashhurinw wallaaa’ee lam yahizn; wa ulaatul ahmaali ajaluhunna aie yaza’ana hamlahun; wa mai-yattaqil laaha yaj’al lahoo min amrihee yusraa

4. And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women – if you doubt, then their period is three months, and (also for) those who have not menstruated. And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they give birth. And whoever fears ALLAH – He will make for him of his matter ease.

٥۔ ذَٰلِكَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ أَنزَلَهُۥٓ إِلَيۡكُمۡۚ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يُكَفِّرۡ عَنۡهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِۦ وَيُعۡظِمۡ لَهُۥٓ أَجۡرًا

5. Zaalika amrul laahi anzalahoo ilaikum; wa mai-yattaqil laaha yukaffir ‘anhu saiyi aatihee wa yu’azim lahoo ajraa

5. That is the command of ALLAH, which He has sent down to you; and whoever fears ALLAH – He will remove for him his misdeeds and make great for him his reward.

٦. أَسۡكِنُوهُنَّ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ سَكَنتُم مِّن وُجۡدِكُمۡ وَلَا تُضَآرُّوهُنَّ لِتُضَيِّقُواْ عَلَيۡهِنَّۚ وَإِن كُنَّ أُوْلَٰتِ حَمۡلٖ فَأَنفِقُواْ عَلَيۡهِنَّ حَتَّىٰ يَضَعۡنَ حَمۡلَهُنَّۚ فَإِنۡ أَرۡضَعۡنَ لَكُمۡ فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَأۡتَمِرُواْ بَيۡنَكُم بِمَعۡرُوفٖۖ وَإِن تَعَاسَرۡتُمۡ فَسَتُرۡضِعُ لَهُۥٓ أُخۡرَىٰ

6. Askinoohunna min haisu sakantum minw-wujdikum wa laa tuzaaarroohunna lituzaiyiqoo ‘alaihinn; wa in kunna ulaati hamlin fa anfiqoo ‘alaihinna hattaa yaza’ana hamlahunn; fa-in arza’ana lakum fa aatoo hunna ujoorahunn; wa’tamiroo bainakum bima’roofin wa in ta’aasartum fasaturzi’u lahooo ukhraa

6. Lodge them (in a section) of where you dwell out of your means and do not harm them to oppress them. And if they should be pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. And if they breastfeed for you, then give them their payment and confer among yourselves in the acceptable way; but if you are in discord, then there may breastfeed for the father another woman.

٧۔ لِيُنفِقۡ ذُو سَعَةٖ مِّن سَعَتِهِۦۖ وَمَن قُدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقُهُۥ فَلۡيُنفِقۡ مِمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُۚ لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا مَآ ءَاتَىٰهَاۚ سَيَجۡعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بَعۡدَ عُسۡرٖ يُسۡرٗا

7. Liyunfiq zoo sa’atim min sa’atih; wa man qudira ‘alaihi rizquhoo falyunfiq mimmaaa aataahul laah; laa yukalliful laahu nafsan illaa maaa aataahaa; sa yaj’alul laahu ba’da’usriny yusra

7. Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth, and he whose provision is restricted – let him spend from what ALLAH has given him. ALLAH does not charge a soul except (according to) what He has given it. ALLAH will bring about, after hardship, ease.

٨. وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ عَتَتۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِۦ فَحَاسَبۡنَٰهَا حِسَابٗا شَدِيدٗا وَعَذَّبۡنَٰهَا عَذَابٗا نُّكۡرٗا

8. Wa ka ayyim min qaryatin ‘atat ‘an amri Rabbihaa wa Rusulihee fahaasabnaahaa hisaaban shadeedanw wa ‘azzabnaahaa ‘azaa ban nukraa

8. And how many a city was insolent toward the command of its Lord and His messengers, so We took it to severe account and punished it with a terrible punishment.

٩۔ فَذَاقَتۡ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهَا وَكَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ أَمۡرِهَا خُسۡرً

9. Fazaaqat wabaala amrihaa wa kaana ‘aaqibatu amrihaa khusraa

9. And it tasted the bad consequence of its affair, and the outcome of its affair was loss.

١٠۔ أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٗا شَدِيدٗاۖ فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ يَـٰٓأُوْلِي ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْۚ قَدۡ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيۡكُمۡ ذِكۡرٗا

10. A’addal laahu lahum ‘azaaban shadeedan fattaqul laaha yaaa ulil albaab, allazeena aammanoo; qad anzalal laahu ilaikum zikraa

10. ALLAH has prepared for them a severe punishment; so fear ALLAH, O you of understanding who have believed. ALLAH has sent down to you the Quran.

١١۔ رَّسُولٗا يَتۡلُواْ عَلَيۡكُمۡ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ مُبَيِّنَٰتٖ لِّيُخۡرِجَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِ مِنَ ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ إِلَى ٱلنُّورِۚ وَمَن يُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ وَيَعۡمَلۡ صَٰلِحٗا يُدۡخِلۡهُ جَنَّـٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدٗاۖ قَدۡ أَحۡسَنَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥ رِزۡقًا

11. Rasoolai yatloo ‘alaikum aayaatil laahi mubaiyinaatil liyukhrijal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati minaz zulumaati ilan noor; wa maiy yu’aminm billaahi wa ya’mal saalihai yudkhilhu jannaatin tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feehaa abadaa; qad ahsanal laahu lahoo rizqaa

11. (He sent) a Messenger (Muhammad) reciting to you the distinct verses of ALLAH that He may bring out those who believe and do righteous deeds from darknesses into the light. And whoever believes in ALLAH and does righteousness – He will admit him into gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide therein forever. ALLAH will have perfected for him a provision.

۱۲۔ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ سَبۡعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِثۡلَهُنَّۖ يَتَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ بَيۡنَهُنَّ لِتَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٞ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدۡ أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عِلۡمَۢا

12. Allaahul lazee khalaqa Sab’a Samaawaatinw wa minal arzi mislahunn; yatanazzalul amru bainahunna lita’alamooo annal laaha ‘alaa kulli shai’in Qadeerunw wa annal laaha qad ahaata bikulli shai’in ‘il maa

12.It is ALLAH who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them. (His) command descends among them so you may know that ALLAH is over all things competent and that ALLAH has encompassed all things in knowledge.

Hadith Regarding Surah At-Talaq

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah that the shorter Surah, that speaks of women (At-Talaq), was revealed after Al-Baqarah.

Grade: Sahih (Darussalam) : Vol. 4, Book 27, Hadith 3553

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud:

I can invoke the curse of Allah on anyone who wishes: The smaller surat an-Nisa (i.e. Surat at-Talaq) was revealed after the verse regarding the waiting period of four months and ten days had been revealed.

Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani) Book 12, Hadith 2300
