Rabbighfir Warham Wa Anta Khairur Rahemeen is a verse from The Holy Quran chapter number 23, Surah Al-Muminoon, verse number 118. The comforts and pleasures of life which a non-believer enjoys in this perishable world. It is all given to them as a test, and it will end with their loss in this present life. And what about a true believer?
Quranic Verse Rabbighfir Warham Wa Anta Khairur Rahemeen
What is Surah Muminoon all about?
This last passage of the surah continues to discuss the fate of the idolaters, showing it in a complete scene of the Day of Resurrection. It starts with an image of approaching death ending this life and moves on to show what happens after the Trumpet is blown and the dead are brought back to life. This is followed by an emphatic statement of God’s oneness, coupled with a stern warning to those who associate partners with God, putting them on notice of what awaits them if they persist in their erring ways. The surah concludes with a directive given to the Prophet to seek God’s forgiveness and to pray for His grace. God is certainly the best of all who show mercy.

The Basic Issue of Faith
The final verses of the surah are dedicated to faith. They state its central tenet; namely, God’s oneness. We have an announcement of the great loss suffered by those who associate partners with Him. This contrasts with the success declared at the beginning of the surah which is guaranteed to the believers. Coupled with this declaration is an instruction to turn to God, requesting His forgiveness and appealing for His mercy. He is certainly the most merciful of all those who are compassionate.
The last verse in this surah, The Believers, gives the instruction to turn to God appealing for His mercy and forgiveness:
“Say: My Lord! Forgive and have mercy. You are the best of those who show mercy.”
Surah #23, Surah Muminoon Verse 118
Thus the opening of the surah and its end jointly emphasize success for the believers and utter failure and loss for the unbelievers.
Both elements stress the basic qualities of believers. Thus, the beginning states that the believers humble themselves in prayer, while the end instructs them to humbly appeal to God for forgiveness and mercy. Both make the surah a complete, well-designed unit. You will love to read→ Surah Al Imran Ayat 154 Benefits
Rabbighfir Warham Wa Anta Khairur Rahemeen
The verse is a Dua to ALLAH The Majestic for Forgiveness
The most significant among the benefits for a human is to get forgiveness from the sins he committed. This dua helps to seek forgiveness in order to collect more assets for the afterlife.
There are several authentic duas for Astaghfar, which are given in the Quran and hadith. Repenting to ALLAH Subhanahu Wata ‘Ala should be our regular prayer. One of the many prayer of repentance is a duaa.
ALLAH Jalla Jalaaluhoo sent down to our Prophet Mu’hammad ﷺ three (3) duaas:
- Rabbi ighfir which means ‘My lord forgive’
- Warham means ‘and have mercy’
- Wa anta khayrur raahimeen which means ‘and you are the best in being merciful‘
‘My lord forgive and have mercy and you are the best in being merciful‘
This duaa should be recited after every obligatory (farz) namaz. This duaa will help you in asking ALLAH Ta’ala for his forgiveness with a sincere heart. Never despair of the mercy of ALLAH The Majestic. Verily ALLAH Ta’ala forgives all sins. He is the forgiver, the most merciful. For indeed it is his mercy that encompasses all. It is ALLAH Ta’ala mercy that he forgives all.
No matter how big the sin or sins are that you have committed, no matter what your past has been like, if you come back to ALLAH The Almighty with sincere tauba with all your heart, ALLAH Ta’ala will forgive you. Surely, he is more merciful than a mother is towards her child.
‘O you who believe, turn to ALLAH The Merciful with sincere repentance, it may be that your Lord will expiate from your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow ‘(Surah At-Tahreem : verse 8). You will love to read→ YarhamukALLAH Meaning
As humans, we are making mistakes from time to time. We can waste our time doing pointless things like watching Tv or listening to music, whereas we can use that precious time and energy by thanking ALLAH The Reckoner and acknowledging him for his countless favors upon us. Therefore reciting the above duaa should become part of our everyday supplications. We should aim to spend 10-15 minutes after every salah reciting this duaa of forgiveness and focusing on how merciful, loving, and forgiving ALLAH Jalla Jalaaluhoo is.
We should also aim to try and give sadaqah from time to time which saves us from ALLAH Jalla Jalaaluhoo displeasure and reconnects us to him again.
For example, we can feed seeds and bread to the birds, leave a bowl of water for the birds, help a vulnerable person with crossing the road, or lifting heavy bags of shopping for them. If you can do these small acts of kindness, then you have won the battle against the devil as he tries his best for you not to connect with ALLAH Ta’ala.
