Purpose of Rabbana La Tuzigh Quloobana Dua
In the dua, we ask for:
The guidance of ALLAH. Guidance towards the righteous and straight path. To reach and achieve salvation,
The mercy of ALLAH,
- Asking ALLAH to not let us go astray, and
And admitting that only ALLAH Subhanahu Wata ‘Ala is the grantor of everything.
Concept of Rabbana La Tuzigh Quloobana Dua?
When ALLAH intends to guide someone, HE makes his heart tilt towards what is good and right; and when HE decides to let someone go astray, HE turns his heart away from the straight path.
This is just as it was said in a Hadith of the Holy Prophet ﷺ:
There is no heart which is not there in between the two of ALLAH’s fingers- HE makes it firm on the truth as long as HE wills, and turns it away from the truth when HE wills.
HE is ALLAH, absolute in power. HE does what HE wills. Therefore, those who are concerned about how to remain firm in their faith, they go to the source – requesting and praying ALLAH for steadfastness. The Holy Prophet ﷺ always used to pray for it as it appears in a Hadith
ya Muqalliban Quloobi Sabbit Quloobana ‘Ala Deenika
(O reverser of hearts, make our hearts firm on the faith chosen by You).

ALLAH The Exalted is close to the one who makes dua to HIM.
In Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse #51,
When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way.
Dua is for us only.
There is no bound of making a dua to ALLAH Subhanahu Wata ‘Ala. One cannot limit this within numbers. Dua is worship. Be punctual in salah. Afterward, make more and more dua reciting the verses which directly asks ALLAH for the guidance and goodness in this world and in the hereafter.
